Footage has captured the alarming moment a man allegedly carjacked a stranger's vehicle in western Sydney while two distressed children were with him, following a police pursuit that ended in violence. Police had initially attended a welfare check on a 36-year-old driver in Belmore before he allegedly refused to stop, prompting a chase across the suburbs that authorities were forced to abandon due to his dangerous driving.

During the incident, the man drove on the wrong side of the M4 Motorway and collided with an oncoming vehicle, then allegedly attempted to steal a car, stabbing a 25-year-old bystander who intervened. Witnesses filmed him wielding a suspected knife while holding one of the children, before forcing his way into another vehicle driven by a woman, who fell from the car as it moved off. He was eventually arrested by an off-duty officer at Wentworthville and taken to hospital under guard, while the two children were treated at Westmead Children's Hospital for minor injuries.
