Houston father kills baby’s grandmother, injures infant and dies by suicide
A 52-year-old man, Rodney Bob, shot and killed his eight-month-old son’s grandmother and injured the baby during a visit to a Houston apartment complex, then died by suicide. The child’s mother was unharmed, and police are investigating the incident.
Police said Bob arrived with nappies on Saturday at about 7.35pm, before an argument with the baby’s 19-year-old mother. The grandmother, Karie Rae Thomas, 37, was shot in the back and later died in hospital; the baby was in a critical but stable condition on Monday. The reason for the argument was not known, and Bob’s daughter said he had struggled with his mental health, while stressing that this did not excuse his actions.
In short
- A Houston baby was injured in a shooting and was reported critical but stable.
- The infant’s grandmother was killed, and the shooter died by suicide.
- Police are investigating; the argument’s cause is unknown.
Explained simply
Domestic violence is violence or abuse between people in a family or relationship, and it can affect children as well as adults. When a child is injured during a violent incident, police and medical teams investigate what happened and provide care.
The people involved here were the baby’s parents and the child’s grandmother, Karie Rae Thomas. Police said the baby’s mother was 19, and that the argument’s cause was not known.
The incident matters because it left a young child seriously injured and a family grieving. A police investigation may establish more about the events and their circumstances.
