Prosecutors say the messages support their case that Burke sexually abused the teenager and later killed her after she threatened to expose the alleged abuse; he has pleaded not guilty.

The hearing is deciding whether Burke should stand trial over Celeste’s death. Prosecutors say the messages began when she was 11 and he was 17, that abuse began when she was 13 and he was 18, and that her body was found in Burke’s Tesla in September 2025, five months after she was last seen at his home; he faces seven charges including murder and continuous sexual abuse of a child.
