Richard Wright and David Gilmour both identified Pink Floyd’s 1975 album ‘Wish You Were Here’ as the band’s finest work. Their agreement matters because the record is often considered one of the group’s defining releases, combining their commercial success with themes of absence, alienation and the pressures of the music industry.

Released as the follow-up to ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, the album includes the title track, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ and ‘Welcome to the Machine’. Much of it reflects the band’s feelings about former member Syd Barrett and their unease with fame, while Wright and Gilmour regarded it as a particularly complete artistic statement.
