Stevie Nicks' 1980 duet "Leather And Lace," featured on her acclaimed solo album Bella Donna, was written to reflect the difficulties of romantic relationships within the music industry, drawing on her own experiences dating fellow musicians and executives. The song was originally intended for country star Waylon Jennings and his wife, but Nicks ultimately recorded it herself with the Eagles' Don Henley, whom she had previously dated in the late 1970s.

Nicks has said she struggled to finish the track, describing it as one of the hardest things to write because personal relationships "fall out of your hands and into the hands of the world" once made public. She credits Henley with pushing her to complete the song, visiting her daily to guide its direction after she nearly abandoned it, before the pair recorded a simple demo together. Decades later, in 2019, Henley joined Nicks on stage to perform the song again as she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, her second such induction after her earlier entry with Fleetwood Mac.
