May shared the reflection in a social media post accompanying a video of Vaughan performing, praising his emotive, technically brilliant playing. The tribute highlights how deeply May, himself renowned for innovation and a soulful approach to the guitar rooted in the blues, admired Vaughan's ability to channel raw emotion through his instrument.

In the post, May described Vaughan as "lost in a world of his own", comparing his expressive style to that of Jimi Hendrix and calling him "an elemental monster" and one of guitar playing's "greatest champions". He said one of his favourite career moments came after Vaughan's death, when a friend of the guitarist told May that Vaughan had admired his playing.
