The 1983 Oscars snub Stephen King will never forgive or forget: “I remain pissed”

Far Out ·

Stephen King has long felt that Dee Wallace deserved an Academy Award nomination for playing Donna Trenton in the 1983 horror film *Cujo*. He called the performance a standout and said he remained angry that it was overlooked, highlighting how horror performances can be absent from major awards recognition.

Wallace was not among the five nominees for Best Actress at the 56th Academy Awards, held in April 1984. Shirley MacLaine won for *Terms of Endearment*, beating nominees Debra Winger, Jane Alexander, Julie Walters and Meryl Streep; King expressed his complaint publicly in 2009, more than 25 years after *Cujo* was released.
