Thom Yorke has said Radiohead’s 1995 song ‘Bones’ is one he feels the band can never quite make work live. His comments illustrate the tension between the more direct rock sound of *The Bends* and Radiohead’s later desire to develop a different musical identity.

‘Bones’ appeared on *The Bends*, alongside songs such as ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ and ‘My Iron Lung’, but Yorke considers it “a little bit rock” for his tastes.
