The 2000s’ Most Criminally Overlooked Horror Franchise Is Officially Back
The Descent: Part 2, the sequel to the acclaimed 2005 British horror film The Descent, is being released on 4K Ultra HD for the first time in the US via a new SteelBook edition from Lionsgate. The reissue brings renewed attention to a franchise that critics regard as one of the more underrated horror series of the 2000s, offering fans a chance to revisit its claustrophobic cave-set sequel in high definition.
The original film, set in North Carolina and following six women trapped underground with monstrous creatures, holds an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score. Its sequel, directed by Jon Harris and released in UK cinemas in December 2009 before going straight to DVD in the US in 2010, is now available for pre-order ahead of an August 11, 2026 launch, featuring new bonus content including cast flashbacks and an audio commentary with the director and stars Shauna Macdonald, Krysten Cummings and Anna Skellern.
