The “ahead of its time” movie Tom Hanks and Nicolas Cage agree is the greatest ever made: “Doesn’t everyone know this?”

Tom Hanks and Nicolas Cage both name Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film *2001: A Space Odyssey* as the greatest movie ever made. Their shared admiration highlights the film’s lasting impact and its reputation for ambitious filmmaking and groundbreaking special effects.

Hanks says he watches it at least twice a year, while Cage revisits it up to three times annually and still finds it mysterious. Cage praises its poetic, enigmatic quality and music; Hanks admires how it depicts zero gravity, which he says few films attempt.
