Amazon adds a home camera and Alexa+ features to Echo Studio

Engadget ·

Amazon has added a built-in camera to its Echo Studio speaker, allowing owners to check on pets or their home through the Alexa app and make video calls. The redesigned device retains the original’s focus on high-quality sound while adding Alexa+ features for everyday tasks, including answering questions about board-game rules.

The Echo Studio with Home Camera streams video to Live View and can act as a webcam for personal or business calls. Its audio features include Dolby Atmos, a high-excursion woofer and three full-range drivers, plus sound adjustments that respond to room acoustics and the listener’s position. It is available for $250, while the camera-free 2025 Echo Studio remains on sale for $220.

In short

  • Amazon added a camera and video-call support to the Echo Studio.
  • It retains Dolby Atmos sound and gains room-adaptive audio features.
  • The camera model costs $250, compared with $220 without a camera.

Explained simply

Echo Studio is Amazon’s smart speaker, combining speakers and microphones with Alexa, the company’s voice assistant. The Echo range includes devices with different features, and some can control smart home equipment or answer spoken questions.

Alexa+ is an updated version of Alexa designed to handle a wider range of everyday tasks. Adding a camera gives the speaker another role in the home, while the audio system remains a central part of the product. The choice between versions may matter to people deciding whether they want a camera as well as a speaker.
