The artist dropping her debut album after a billion streams

BBC Entertainment ·

Irish DJ and singer Jazzy, who has amassed more than a billion streams, is releasing her debut album, *Peace and Patience*, after years of putting out singles and smaller projects. The release comes as dance music is growing in popularity, while many artists in the genre favour singles and EPs over full albums.

The 30-year-old, whose real name is Yasmine Byrne, says she made the album to reflect her own sound rather than chase viral success. It includes the more personal track “Invisible”, which she describes as her first diss track, and arrives ahead of her biggest gig yet at Dublin’s 3Arena and a UK tour. Jazzy also voiced concern about the decline of club culture: figures cited from the Night Time Industries Association indicate about 12 UK venues close each month, with almost 30% of the night-time economy lost since the pandemic.

In short

  • Jazzy releases her first full-length album after more than a billion streams.
  • The record blends uplifting tracks with more personal material.
  • She warns that closing clubs threaten opportunities for dance artists.
