Atari will close VCS software store in February 2027
Atari will retire its VCS platform when its software store closes on 1 February 2027, ending a long-running project marked by delays and changes. The closure will limit how owners add software, though Atari says it plans to remove the console’s reliance on its online infrastructure.
The VCS is a Linux-based mini PC with an AMD processor, styled loosely after the Atari 2600 and supplied with classic games. Owners can add apps and games from Atari’s online store until 31 January 2027; downloads already in their libraries will remain usable afterwards. Atari plans an operating system update and a Home Brew app to support local use and games from third-party developers.
In short
- Atari’s VCS store closes on 1 February 2027.
- Existing downloaded apps and games will still work.
- Atari plans local software support and a Home Brew app.
