DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has denied a widely circulated online rumour that "The Batman 2" and "The Batman 3" are being filmed back-to-back, quashing speculation that this was behind the long delay to Matt Reeves's sequel. Asked directly on Threads to confirm or deny the claim, Gunn replied simply "I can deny," putting an end to fan theories that had drawn comparisons to franchises such as "The Matrix" and "Avengers," which were shot as combined productions.

"The Batman 2" is currently filming in London with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the Dark Knight, alongside newcomers Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch; Reeves co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin. The film has faced repeated delays, moving from an original October 2026 release to October 2027 and now to 18 February 2028, nearly six years after the first film. Warner Bros. says the extra time will allow for a longer post-production process, and plot and casting details remain undisclosed.
