FX's body-horror thriller "The Beauty" is on indefinite pause after the contract options on its cast, including leads Evan Peters and Rebecca Hall, lapsed and the actors moved on to other projects. Ryan Murphy and Matthew Hodgson's series, adapted from a comic book by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, launched strongly overseas in January but lost momentum and was quickly overshadowed by Murphy's other FX series, Love Story, which dominated the cultural conversation instead.

The show follows FBI agents Cooper Madsen (Peters) and Jordan Bennett (Hall) investigating a virus that turns people into physically perfect but dangerous beings, and ended its first season on a cliffhanger with Cooper's transformation unresolved. Because characters have previously been recast mid-story, such as Jordan being played by Jessica Alexander, the release of the cast's options does not rule out a future season, though there are currently no concrete plans for one. The series also starred Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, with guest appearances from Bella Hadid, Isabella Rossellini and Ben Platt, and was produced by 20th Television.
