The sold-out Young Vic production features Adjoa Andoh, Rosie Jones and Olivia Williams, and uses the facts of the case to create what the theatre’s director describes as a powerful act of witnessing.
The article also highlights several works available to stream in November: a new Internationaal Theater Amsterdam music compilation on Spotify; Damien Jalet and Erna Ómarsdóttir’s dance film *DuEls*, set among sculptures at Oslo’s Vigeland Museum; and Carrie Cracknell’s revival of Tom Stoppard’s *Arcadia*, available on NT at Home from 26 November. Explained simply
Gisèle Pelicot is a French woman whose former husband and other men were convicted in a case involving drugging and rape. The case drew wide attention in France and beyond, including because Pelicot chose to waive her right to anonymity during the trial.
Milo Rau and Servane Dècle are theatre-makers whose documentary play draws on the case. Documentary theatre uses real events and records as material for a performance, raising questions about how the people involved and the events are represented. The production brings the case to a London stage, where it can reach audiences beyond the courtroom.
