Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja, the Spanish man known as "the boy raised by wolves" after living wild in the mountains of rural Spain for around 12 years as a child, has died at the age of 80. His extraordinary story became internationally known as one of the best-documented modern cases of a feral child, inspiring books, documentaries and a 2010 Spanish film, "Among Wolves" ("Entrelobos").

Pantoja was abandoned or sold by his impoverished family as a young boy and left to fend for himself in the Sierra Morena mountains, where he says he was taken in and protected by a pack of wolves alongside other wildlife. He later described this period, which he said lasted around 12 years, as the happiest of his life, before he was eventually discovered by authorities and forced back into human society, a transition he found deeply traumatic and struggled with for the rest of his life, including learning to speak, wear clothes and adapt to modern living.
