Sheffield fitness instructor Joanne Graham has created Active Steps, exercise classes for people recovering from cancer, after finding it difficult to access suitable rehabilitation following her own treatment. Supported by Weston Park Cancer Charity, the sessions combine exercise with peer support, helping participants rebuild fitness and manage the emotional effects of cancer.

Graham was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and underwent a mastectomy, reconstructive surgery and removal of her ovaries. A pilot earlier this year involved 12 people who had experienced cancer or were still receiving treatment; she is now seeking 24 participants for the next sessions at Zest Community Centre. Attendees describe the classes as important to their recovery, with activities including circuits, trampolining and boxing.
