Explained simply
The Chosen is a television drama about the life of Jesus and the people around him. Jonathan Roumie plays Jesus, and the series follows events drawn from the New Testament.
The story is part of a wider change in how the series is released: episodes have appeared in cinemas before becoming available to stream. Fathom Events has handled several cinema releases, while Prime Video is the streaming platform for the sixth season and has rights to the seventh.
The sixth season focuses on Jesus’ final hours. Its cinema and streaming releases matter to viewers choosing where and when to watch, and to the series’ producers as they distribute it to audiences.
