The Coen Brothers Officially Reunite After 8 Years for New Netflix Mystery

Joel and Ethan Coen are collaborating on a screenplay for Jack of Spades, ending an eight-year gap in their screenplay work together. Netflix has acquired the gothic mystery, which Joel will direct alone, and plans a cinema release in autumn 2027 followed by streaming later that year.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, the film adapts Frances Frederica Montrésor’s 1901 novel The Alien: A Story of Middle Age and is described as a story of intrigue and betrayal. Eleanor Catton and Conor McPherson also co-wrote the screenplay; the cast includes Josh O’Connor, Patsy Ferran, Damian Lewis and Lesley Manville. No exact release date has been announced.
