The Community movie remains in slow but steady development, according to Steve Levy, vice president of Dan Harmon's production company and an executive producer on the film. Speaking on the podcast Six Seasons & a Podcast, Levy said the deliberately unhurried pace is by design, as the team searches for one final Greendale story worthy of the franchise, rather than rushing to meet fan demand.

Levy said he discusses the movie with Harmon on a weekly or fortnightly basis, and recently had dinner with Harmon, co-writer Andrew Guest and star Joel McHale to review progress. Harmon first confirmed he was writing the film in 2021, telling Vulture he faced a "philosophical" challenge over how much continuity to draw on, and in 2022 told Newsweek to expect it "between one and eight years" from then. Plans to begin filming in 2023 were derailed partly by that year's Hollywood labour strikes, and Levy said scheduling remains difficult given the cast's high demand, though he insisted no single person is holding up the project and that everyone remains keen to make it.
