The Cure announce Simon Gallup’s son, Eden, filling in for him on tour as he’s “not well enough to play”

The Cure have confirmed that Simon Gallup, the band's long-serving bassist, fell ill during their UK and European tour, with his son Eden Gallup stepping in to cover his parts. Gallup was taken ill shortly before the first of three concerts at Berlin's Wuhlheide, and fans noticed his absence at the opening show, where Eden played bass in his place.
Frontman Robert Smith explained the situation on Instagram after the band dedicated 'Lullaby', the first song of the encore, to Gallup at the gig on Friday 10 July. Smith wrote that Gallup remained "not well enough to play", so Eden would fill in again for the following show, thanking his son and wishing Gallup "the speediest of recoveries". The news came amid a busy period for Smith, who has recently collaborated with Olivia Rodrigo on 'What's Wrong With Me' and features on The Rolling Stones' forthcoming album 'Foreign Tongues'.
