Ubisoft has launched the Dust Storm event in The Division 2, a limited-time event running until 11 August that lets players earn cosmetic chests and other rewards, while also offering free access to the Warlords of New York expansion for those who don't own the DLC. The event centres on dynamic sandstorms across New York, which alternate between "Calm" and "Raging" states, obscuring visibility and creating opportunities for enemy ambushes, giving the update a fresh gameplay hook for returning and new players alike.

During the storms, players face waves of enemies called Dust Devils, four-strong squads that spawn every six minutes with various combat modifiers. Clearing 50 common enemies triggers a boss fight against one of two named bosses, Paul or Black Lung, which rewards a Storm Key and a unique mask on first defeat. These Storm Keys, also earned by defeating Dust Devil squads or a "scoured hunter", can be exchanged with an event vendor for rewards, with fewer kills required as difficulty increases (14 on Normal/Hard, 12 on Challenging, 10 on Heroic), and the first 150 daily kills counting towards the reduced requirement.
