The Division Resurgence, a free-to-play mobile spin-off of Ubisoft's loot-shooter series, has quietly launched on Steam, drawing a lukewarm reception from players who question why a mobile-designed game was brought to PC at all. The release matters because it highlights Ubisoft's uneven handling of the franchise, coming amid prolonged silence over the long-awaited full sequel, The Division 3, and criticism that the free-to-play model undermines the experience.

Resurgence has been available on iOS and Android since March and reached PC via Ubisoft Connect in April, before arriving on Steam last week with little promotion despite being announced back in June. It currently holds a "Mixed" rating from nearly 1,600 user reviews, with complaints centred on restrictive daily loot limits and scaled-down rewards, while concurrent player numbers peaked at just 4,117. The game was originally announced in 2022 for a 2024 release, and its struggles are compounded by Ubisoft continuing to support the more popular Division 2 and offering no meaningful updates on Division 3 since its 2023 announcement, following the departure of longtime franchise creative director Julian Gerighty earlier this year.
