The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel won’t fill the shoes of GTA 6 as the next white whale, says analyst
An industry analyst says The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel is unlikely to become gaming’s next hugely anticipated “white whale” after Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives. Mat Piscatella argues that GTA and a small group of other franchises have exceptional mass-market reach, giving their publishers unusual freedom to take risks.
Piscatella places Elder Scrolls, The Witcher and God of War in a different commercial tier from GTA, Call of Duty and NBA 2K, while noting that they remain major successes. Skyrim and The Witcher 3 have each sold 65 million copies. Elder Scrolls 6 was announced eight years ago, has no public screenshot, and is reportedly targeting a 2029 launch, 18 years after Skyrim.
