A trailer has been released for "Artificial," a biopic about OpenAI's Sam Altman starring Andrew Garfield, directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film dramatises the chaotic 2023 events in which Altman was abruptly fired by OpenAI's board before being reinstated five days later, and its unsettling, horror-tinged tone has drawn attention for portraying the AI boom with unease rather than celebration.

The trailer features Garfield delivering a stylised impression of Altman amid ominous music, describing AI as "Pandora's Box" and warning that "countries will fall" and "industries are gonna collapse," while walking through a bunker-like room full of weapons. The film, also starring Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman and Mark Rylance, had an uncertain path to release: Amazon MGM dropped the project after investing $50 billion in OpenAI, and Netflix, A24 and Focus all declined to distribute it before Neon stepped in. "Artificial" is due in cinemas on Christmas Day, just three years after the events it depicts.
