The Flaming Lips announce 17th album, ‘The Teardrop Throbs’

Far Out ·

The Flaming Lips have announced their 17th album, *The Teardrop Throbs*, their first new release in nearly seven years. Due on January 22 through Third Man Records, it follows 2020’s *American Head* and is the band’s first album since longtime collaborators Michael Ivins and Steven Drozd departed.

Frontman Wayne Coyne says fatherhood shaped the record, including its first single, ‘God Will Control the Werewolves’, inspired by a game of hide-and-seek with his sons. He says the songs are open to interpretation. The band will play two shows each in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London: one featuring the album in full and older material, the other reworking new songs alongside tracks from their 20th-century catalogue.

In short
