The piece is an enthusiastic rave, with the writer declaring it the best action movie of the year and possibly of the past 50 years, praising its relentless, inventive fight sequences.

The film briefly held a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and currently sits at 98% based on 141 reviews, with critics from outlets such as Variety describing it as flamboyantly violent and enjoyable. It stars Joe Taslim as Navin, a journalist searching for his missing wife Matia (Jeeja Yanin), alongside Xie Miao as a mute single father, Wang Wei, and Indonesian action star Yayan Ruhian. The plot, centred on kidnappings and revenge, has been criticised as formulaic with poor English dubbing, but the review argues its spectacular set pieces — including a nightclub octagon fight and a bicycle "sword fight" — more than compensate.
