Bungie says Marathon will expand beyond its original winner-takes-all PvEvP extraction format, while retaining that experience for players who enjoy it. The studio plans to broaden the game’s appeal through additional modes, including forthcoming PvE content and an experimental Team Deathmatch option.

The next major update, Symbiosis, is expected to introduce the PvE mode, while Team Deathmatch will provide shorter, lower-risk matches. Bungie also detailed the Bishop shell, a fast melee-focused robot samurai, announced a fungus-based visual overhaul and new routes for the Perimeter, and confirmed a new zone and social hub with a firing range are planned for March.
