Final Fantasy X, widely regarded as one of the greatest role-playing games ever made, has marked the 25th anniversary of its original Japanese release this week. Square Enix marked the occasion with a celebratory video and confirmed that the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will finally launch on Nintendo Switch 2, giving fans a new way to revisit the acclaimed title.

Developed by Square (then SquareSoft) and launched in Japan on 19 July 2001 before reaching North America that December, Final Fantasy X was a technical landmark, introducing full voice acting and 3D character rendering to the series. It follows blitzball star Tidus and summoner Yuna as they journey through the world of Spira to defeat the monster Sin, and went on to sell more than 8.5 million copies worldwide while scoring 92 on Metacritic. The HD Remaster, which bundles the original game with its 2003 sequel Final Fantasy X-2, is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on 23 July.
