‘The History Boys’ Returns to London West End After 20 Years, With Nicholas Hytner Back Directing Alan Bennett’s Play

Alan Bennett’s *The History Boys* will return to London’s West End after more than 20 years, with Nicholas Hytner directing the production he first staged at the National Theatre in 2004. The revival brings back a celebrated play whose themes of education, class and growing up remain relevant to new audiences.

Previews begin at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 10 April 2027, with the run closing on 24 July; the cast is due to be announced in January. Bob Crowley returns as set designer. The original production went on to Broadway and won six Tony Awards, as well as three Olivier Awards, after its West End transfer.
