Jaismine Lamboria, the reigning 57kg boxing world champion and the first woman inducted into the Indian Army as a boxer, is competing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with the aim of upgrading the bronze medal she won at Birmingham 2022 to gold. The 24-year-old enters the tournament as one of India's strongest gold-medal prospects after a standout 2025, and her progress carries wider significance as a symbol for female athletes within the Indian Army's growing sporting structure.

Lamboria's breakthrough year included World Cup gold medals in Astana and Delhi before she claimed the world title in Liverpool, defeating Paris Olympic silver medallist Julia Atena Szeremeta after dropping back down to the 57kg category. This followed a disappointing first-round exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which she says pushed her to make physical and mental changes at the Army Sports Institute in Pune. Since joining the Corps of Military Police after her 2022 Commonwealth bronze, she has trained under the army's Mission Olympics Wing, a scheme that has also produced Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, and she now hopes to inspire more girls through the army's new Girls Sports Company programme.
