Netflix has fast-tracked development of a potential The Lincoln Lawyer spin-off starring Cobie Smulders as Artemisia “Emi” Finch, after reportedly buying the project in the room and ordering a script for a rapid turnaround. The move would extend the legal drama franchise beyond its confirmed fifth and final season, though a full series has not yet been approved.

Executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman are writing the script, with A+E Studios producing, while a green light depends on agreements with key partners. Emi, Mickey Haller’s newly discovered half-sister, was introduced in season four and will be a regular in season five; she is an original character created partly because rights to Mickey’s half-brother Harry Bosch belong to Amazon. Netflix says the first four seasons generated more than $425 million for California, while the series has received 171 million views since 2023.
