Netflix has fast-tracked development of a potential The Lincoln Lawyer spin-off starring Cobie Smulders as Artemisia “Emi” Finch, following the decision to end the original series with its fifth season. The project would extend the legal-drama franchise on Netflix, but it has not yet received a full series order and remains subject to further agreements.
Executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman are writing the script, with A+E Studios producing. Emi, Mickey Haller’s previously unknown half-sister, was introduced in season four and becomes a regular in season five; the original series has recorded 171 million views since 2023 and Netflix says its first four seasons contributed more than $425 million to California’s economy.

The Lincoln Lawyer is a US legal drama based on novels by Michael Connelly. It follows Mickey Haller, a Los Angeles defence lawyer who often works from the back of his chauffeur-driven Lincoln car, handling criminal cases and personal complications.
Cobie Smulders plays Emi Finch, a lawyer revealed to be Mickey’s half-sister. She was created for the television series rather than taken directly from the books, partly because another Connelly character connected to Mickey, detective Harry Bosch, is used in Amazon’s separate Bosch screen franchise.
Netflix is considering whether Emi could lead her own series after The Lincoln Lawyer ends. A script being developed quickly does not guarantee that the programme will be made, as a full commission would still require further agreements and approval.
