Apple’s updated 14-inch MacBook Pro keeps its 2021 design as a redesign looms
Apple’s M6 MacBook Pro is a modest update to the 14-inch entry model, with a faster chip and new wireless features in the same design used since 2021. The review finds it remains a strong all-round laptop and a step up from the MacBook Air, but questions whether buyers should wait for a likely redesign.
The M6 has a 12-core processor, up from 10 cores in the M5, and an N1 chip that adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Its 14.2-inch miniLED screen, ports, speakers, keyboard and battery remain unchanged; the screen offers 120Hz refresh and up to 1,000 nits of brightness. It starts at $1,999 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, $200 more than its launch price a year earlier, while a new OLED touchscreen model costs $900 more.
In short
- M6 brings a chip and wireless upgrade in the familiar MacBook Pro design.
- The 14-inch model starts at $1,999 with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
- A future redesign may make waiting worthwhile for some buyers.
