The maker of the Baldur’s Gate 3 over-the-shoulder camera mod has gone to great lengths to demonstrate it’s not like other third-person viewpoint solutions
A new Baldur’s Gate 3 mod, True Third-Person Camera, lets players explore Faerûn from a close over-the-shoulder viewpoint rather than the game’s usual elevated tactical perspective. Its creator, Relysia, has highlighted that the camera remains tightly attached to the character, aiming to offer a more cinematic and immersive exploration mode while preserving the original view for situations where it is more practical.
The mod dynamically widens its field of view while running and adjusts camera height for crouching and differently sized characters. It automatically switches back to the standard wider camera for combat, turn-based play, spell targeting, jumping and similar actions, then returns to the close view afterwards; it also includes configurable settings and a recovery option for a stuck camera. It builds on Ersh’s Native Camera Tweaks and requires additional modding tools, with controller play recommended.
