The Midterms Gave Us a Blue Wave — And Some Hilarious Music Memes

The article describes an online wave of music jokes and memes after Democrats won several state races in the 2026 US midterm elections and took control of both chambers of Congress. Music fans used familiar songs, artists and performance clips to celebrate the results, while singer Halsey paired a playful reference to “Colors” with a more serious message about hope and the work still ahead.

Posts proposed songs by Selena, Bobby Pulido and Tinashe as replacements for national or state anthems, and revived a clip of Fergie performing “Barracuda” on the Today show. Tinashe had urged fans to vote and told a critic, “Yall can go”; Lizzo responded to a backhanded compliment with a reaction gif. Other jokes targeted Morgan Wallen and his fans, reflecting the article’s broader mix of election celebration and music-related internet humour.
