The Macmillan Mighty Hike 2026 is a 26-mile circular walking event scheduled for 18 July, starting and finishing in Bakewell and traversing rural Peak District locations. Hundreds of participants are registered to complete the approximately 50,000-step route, which typically requires eight hours or more and is supported by water and meal stations along the way.

The Sheffield newspaper The Star is entering a team of seven reporters into the event with a £1,000 fundraising goal for Macmillan Cancer Support. The participation has been endorsed by John Burkhill, a local fundraiser known for his extensive charitable efforts on behalf of Macmillan, having accumulated over £1.2 million in donations. The Star framed their involvement partly as a direct contribution to Burkhill's progress toward a second million pounds in charitable giving.
