The Mummy is an action-adventure film series built around ancient Egyptian history, supernatural threats and the exploits of Rick and Evie O’Connell. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz played the married adventurers in the first two films, released in 1999 and 2001.

The series has had several later films, with different casts and storylines, so the return of Fraser and Weisz links the new film to its earlier instalments. The title draws on the franchise’s recurring interest in ancient texts and Egyptian mythology, while the plot has not been made public.
