The Mummy film ad banned from London Underground

BBC Entertainment · 7 hours ago

A promotional campaign for The Mummy has been restricted from display in London's public transit system and at outdoor locations following regulatory intervention. The Advertising Standards Authority acted after receiving multiple complaints about the poster's portrayal of a grotesque human figure. The studio behind the film contested the decision, explaining that the artwork represented a character who had survived a childhood abduction and been restored to her parents years later, and that the imagery was created with appropriate restraint.

The regulatory body nevertheless concluded that the combination of visual elements in the poster—including pallid complexion, deteriorated lips, and an expressionless face—resembled a realistic rendering of a deceased minor. This determination was strengthened by the discovery that one advertising location near a childcare facility could be viewed by young children. Advertisements distributed through television and digital streaming platforms were not subject to the same restriction, as broadcast versions were scheduled only for evening hours.
