A new 4K trailer has been released for Ken Russell’s restored and recut 1971 horror film *The Devils*, ahead of a limited cinema re-release this autumn. The return is significant because the controversial film has been officially unavailable for decades, while the new version restores previously removed material in line with Russell’s wishes.
Set during the 1634 Loudun witch trials in France, the film follows priest Urbain Grandier, who is accused of witchcraft by the rejected abbess Sister Jeanne. Guillermo del Toro has praised the restoration’s scale, and Warner Bros.’ Clockwork label will screen it for one week from 16 October with an NC-17 rating, excluding anyone under 17.
