A new 4K trailer has been released for Ken Russell’s restored and recut 1971 horror film *The Devils*, ahead of a limited cinema re-release this autumn. Its return matters because the controversial film has been officially unavailable for decades, while the new edition reinstates material previously removed from the release.
Based on events surrounding the 1634 Loudun witch trials in France, the film follows priest Urbain Grandier, accused of witchcraft by the rejected abbess Sister Jeanne. Guillermo del Toro has praised the restoration, and Warner Bros.’ Clockwork label will screen the NC-17 version for one week from 16 October, excluding under-17s.
