The Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System+ (AES+), a modern remake of SNK's iconic 1990s console, has been delayed by nearly a year, from a planned November 2026 launch to 16 September 2027. Manufacturer Plaion Replai, which holds a licence from SNK, cited overwhelming demand from fans, collectors and retailers combined with a global shortage of memory chips driven by AI infrastructure investment. The delay is significant for retro gaming enthusiasts who had been anticipating the console's arrival this year.

Despite the setback, prices remain unchanged: the standard black edition still costs $250, while the limited-edition white 35th anniversary bundle, which includes a Metal Slug cartridge and memory card, stays at $350. Modernised game cartridges will still retail at $90 each. Existing pre-orders are unaffected and remain first in the queue, with early buyers still receiving a free AES+ gamepad and, in some bundles, a 30% voucher towards cartridges. Plaion Replai has previous experience in this space, having also worked on remakes of the Commodore 64 and a limited-edition yellow Atari 2600.
