The Verge ·

Apple has announced a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K with built-in microphones for hands-free Siri and Find My support in its remote. The update brings Apple’s AI assistant to the streaming box and adds features for finding the remote and building a larger HomePod surround-sound setup.

The device costs $299 and goes on sale on 13 November, with pre-orders opening on 13 October. It has an A19 chip, 128GB of storage, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and can pair with up to four compatible HomePods. Apple TV 4K is Apple’s streaming device, which connects to a television to play films, programmes and other online content. It is part of Apple’s wider range of products, including the iPhone and HomePod speakers, and can be controlled with a remote or Siri, Apple’s voice assistant.

Siri can answer spoken requests, such as finding a programme or controlling compatible smart-home devices. The new model’s microphones allow people to speak to it without holding the remote, while Find My support is designed to help locate a misplaced remote; the box can also work with HomePod speakers for television audio.
