Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that Kratos will lead the God of War game planned after God of War Laufey. The announcement, reportedly made by Cory Barlog at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, reassures fans that the long-running protagonist remains central to the series after Laufey shifts focus to Faye.

God of War Laufey is scheduled to launch on 16 February 2027 and is described as the first instalment not to feature Kratos as its main or co-main character. Its reveal prompted criticism from some fans, both over Kratos’s absence and the decision to use a female lead; the studio had previously said that Kratos would return.
