The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating nearly 1.2 million Tesla vehicles after reports of suspension failures that could lead to a loss of directional control. The preliminary inquiry concerns detachment of a front lower lateral link, a fault that can occur without warning and may affect vehicle safety.

The investigation covers 2018–2020 Model 3s and 2021–2023 Model Ys, following 156 complaints. No crashes, injuries or deaths have been recorded in connection with the issue, and the regulator says the reports appear unrelated to Tesla’s previous suspension recalls, including a 2021 recall covering 2,791 vehicles.
