Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of "The Odyssey" has far exceeded box office forecasts, earning $264.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend, making it the biggest opening in Nolan's career. The result is notable because it surpasses even his previous blockbusters and comes despite months of online controversy surrounding the film's marketing campaign ahead of release.

The takings split roughly $124.5 million domestically and $139.6 million internationally, well above earlier projections of $90-100 million domestically and around $257.8 million globally. The nearly three-hour epic, which stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and Zendaya among others, cost $250 million to produce and a further $125 million to market, meaning its opening weekend alone has already come close to covering production costs. For comparison, Nolan's 2023 film "Oppenheimer" opened at $180.4 million before eventually grossing nearly $1 billion, and some analysts now expect "The Odyssey" to reach a similar milestone.
