The Odyssey Has Us Thinking About Christopher Nolan’s Video Game Adaptation Ideas
GameSpot argues that Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming film The Odyssey highlights the unrealised potential for video games based on his work. Nolan has said he is interested in the medium but believes an adaptation should stand as a substantial work in its own right, rather than merely exploit a film’s brand.
Nolan discussed the idea in a 2020 interview, noting that games are more complex and time-consuming to make than films. An Inception game was once greenlit but quietly failed to materialise, while Batman Begins received a tie-in game with input from Nolan’s wife Emma Thomas and cinematographer Wally Pfister. The Odyssey, based on Homer’s epic, will receive a free official Roblox tie-in and features actors including Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway.
- Nolan remains interested in games, but rejects superficial film tie-ins.
- A planned Inception game was never released.
