"The Odyssey" is tracking towards a $20 million Tuesday at the North American box office, with early estimates suggesting it could surpass $20.86 million to become Christopher Nolan's best-ever Tuesday takings, overtaking 2008's "The Dark Knight". The film is retaining all Imax and premium large-format screens for its second weekend, with forecasts pointing to a 40-50% drop to between $61.8 million and $74 million — a hold that could beat the second-weekend takings of Nolan's "The Dark Knight" ($75.1 million, -61%) or "The Dark Knight Rises" ($62.1 million, -61%), though such comparisons are unusual since superhero films tend to front-load ticket sales. No major studio is opening a wide release this coming weekend, leaving the field clear until Sony/Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", while smaller openings include IFC's noir thriller "Motor City" (1,600 theatres, 72% on Rotten Tomatoes) and Bleecker Street's live-capture "Hadestown: The Musical" (1,944 theatres), which has already logged around $5 million in advance sales.
