The Olivia Tremor Control, the influential Elephant 6 collective act, have announced The Same Place, their first new album in 27 years, due out on 23rd October via The Elephant 6 Recording Co. The 27-track record is a tribute to two former members who have died, Bill Doss and Will Hart, and marks only the band's third full-length release following 1996's Music from the Unrealized Script: Dusk at Cubist Castle and 1999's Black Foliage: Animation Music Vol. 1.

The album reportedly took around 20 years to complete, with recording beginning around 2010–2011 before halting following Doss's death in 2012 at the age of 43; work resumed in earnest in 2023 with producer Jason NeSmith after Will Hart's death in 2024 at the age of 53. It also features contributions from producers Derek Almstead and Ron Kwasman, and embraces digital recording techniques alongside themes of rebirth and the acceptance of life, death and transformation. The band's current lineup comprises Eric Harris, John Fernandes, Peter Erchick, Derek Almstead and AJ Griffin.
