The other Final Fantasy 7 Remake you might not know about is shutting down
Square Enix has announced that it will end service for the mobile game Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis on 6 October 2026, roughly three years after its 2023 launch. The closure matters because Ever Crisis is a separate remake of Final Fantasy 7, distinct from the studio's big-budget remake trilogy, and it uniquely gathered the entire extended Final Fantasy 7 universe in one place. In an official notice, Square Enix apologised for the abrupt announcement, saying it had determined that continuing to provide a good experience would be difficult.
Players can spend their in-game currency, Red Crystals, until the shutdown, but only residents of Taiwan will be able to claim refunds for unused amounts bought with real money. Before closing, the game will finally adapt Before Crisis, the one remaining Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 title it had yet to include, with the new story released in three parts from July to August. The move follows a run of Square Enix mobile closures, including Nier Reincarnation in 2024 and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars in 2025, some of which have since been revived as console releases.
